HOSPITAL STAY @ $5 A DAY!

       After posting the letters thatmy class-mates wrote to me when I was hopitalized with my appendix operation, I ran across the hospital bill that was due when it was over. It was unbelievable by todays standards. 

         My stay was at the Evangelical Hospital  in Marshalltow, Iowa. The stay was for 5 days(1/5/1954 thr 1/10/1954 with our family doctor--B. L. Trey. My mother did have Blue Cross Health coverage.

        Amazingly, the daily room charge was $5, the delivery room charge $22.50, Surgical dressings- $3, Drugs and medicines- $5.40, Lab service-$6, Anesthetic Sevice-$6, Admin. of Aneesthesia by Hosp. Employee--$9. 

          The total bill was $90.40 with $76 paid by insurance. At the time of the bill $12.50 had been paid and there still a $1.00 charge remaining. I assume my mom made sure the balance was paid in a timely fashion.
