REMEMBER GABBY HAYES?

      Making up my list of favorite kid's TV shows, I couldn't help but comment on  Gabby Hayes. He was so colorful and a sidekick to many famous cowboys of the 1940's and 50's! At one time he was in the top 10 of highest paid actors in Hollywood.

      Anyway, in the early 1950's he had his own TV show that he simply hosted and featured others like Whip Lash La Rue or Long John Silver. His show was sponsored by Quaker Oats and he would, before a commercial, get out this big cannon and point it right at you. He would tell "all you boys and girls to stand back" and then he would pull the string or rope from the cannon and Quaker Oats would explode out at you!

       One offer that he had was a ring with a small metal cannon on it that was spring loaded.  Of course I sent off for it. Probably cost $1.00? It was great for shooting "spit wads"! I wish I still had that piece of memorabilia today!
