SUMMER OF '63 FAMILY TRIP-part 4

Disneyland opened in the summer of 1955. Of  course, we hadn't seen anything like it before. I do remember some of the rides and really enjoyed it. The one mistake mom made was going to Knottsberry Farm the following day. What a disappointment that was after experiencing Disneyland.

On the way back, we went through Las Vegas and saw the Grand Canyon and what a thrill that was. Our final destination coming home was Colorado Springs and the likes of Garden of the Gods. I think mom really loved this particular area and Colorado in general as we went there a few times growing up.

Heading home, I drove all the way back to central Iowa from Colorado Springs. Straight through. The one thing I recall was once we were off the interstate and at the Newton exit I turned the wrong way and was headed toward Knoxville. Over two thousand plus miles of driving across this country without a hitch and then to get turned around so close to home!
