BURNSVILLE, MINN./ ALMOST MET MY WATERLOO!

A young lady started this past week at the Burg Grocery and came from Burnsville, Minnesota along with a little bit of an accent. Ya, you betcha! Just the mentioning of Burnsville reminded me of a story, of course!

In the mid 1980's a close friend of mine had moved to Burnsville to manage a large wholesale drug company where he and his wife resided. Upon visiting one New Year's week-end, we all went out to celebrate New Year's Eve.

We spent the evening at a local club with live music and had a great time. At the end of the evening, my friend knew a bartender there and he agreed to drive us all home as our designated driver.

My friend Dave and his wife lived in an area of new construction and our driver thought  that it would be "cool" to drive up and over this huge pile of fill dirt in his newer SUV. The problem was the pile had been cut into and once we reached the top it was straight down for quite a ways.

The vehicle flipped over and there we all were inside with the vehicle on its side. A couple of us had been smoking  and at about the same time we could hear and smell gasoline leaking out of the gas tank. For some reason no one really panicked and someone finally kicked open a door and we all got out safely.

I suppose there were all kinds of lessons there to be made, but, it just wasn't our time!! Thank Goodness.
