SWEET CORN/NOT FROM IOWA?

Someone at the Burg Grocery asked where the sweet corn this time of year comes from? The reply was they thought it was Georgia or Florida and the fact that it was quite good, but, not as good as our home grown to come later.

It reminded that years ago, while attending the Corn Festival in Gladbrook, Iowa, of stopping by a stand for some tasty sweetcorn. But, being an old farm kid I knew that the time of the year that this festival was held, local corn would not have been ready. I inquired where they got their corn and the reply was Georgia.

I always found it somewhat amusing that in the state of Iowa a town would have a CORN Festival and have to ship it from out of state. The answer was, as I remember, that they had to import it due to starting the festival earlier in the summer as not to compete with the Iowa State Fair. The Georgia corn was pretty darn good, especially, dunked in melted butter and lots of salt and pepper!
