WHEN DO YOU BECOME A MA'AM?

       A customer this past week said to one of the check out ladies something like "Thank you ma'am and have a good week-end!" After the customer left, I couldn't help mention something to the effect "When does one become a ma'am?"

      The lady,in her mid-thirties,  that I directed my question to responded by saying, "Do you think I am ma'am?" I somewhat hesitated and then said I thought she qualified. She quickly shot back with a "Sh-t!"  It's kind of like I felt when younger people started holding the door open for me!
