THE REALLY COOL 58 CHEVY!

As far as really cool cars of the 1950's, the 1958 Chevy Impala wasn't as big of hit or popular, I believe, as the 55',57', or 1959 for that matter. But, there was something about that 58' model that was cool--really cool.

My cousin,Larry Laverty, owned one and it was all black, 2 DR Hardtop, with a really big V8 engine. It sat lower to the ground than some autos and made it appear to be faster, almost angry and daring you to challenge it.

Another great experience concerning a Black 58' Chevy Impala had to do with a friend that owned one and lived in northern New Jersey. On a first trip to visit, in the late 1960's and especially to spend time in the Big Apple nearby, a Sunday tour of Manhattan was done in his prized 58'.

In this case, his Impala was also all black, but, a convertible! We started out on a Sunday morning at the lower end of Manhattan and drove straight up the entire Island. It was so cool to just sit in the back seat and being able to marvel at all the skyscrapers and scenic views that were at our disposal. What a ride!
